Description:
Ferrous Protection were appointed as the specialist principal contractor for refurbishing the bulk jet fuel storage tank at Stansted Airport. The existing lining was at the end of its service life and to ensure optimum fuel quality the lining needed to be replaced with a jet fuel compliant epoxy lining system.
The scope included:
- CDM Management including assigning a Principal Designer.
- Mechanical tank isolations.
- Tank cleaning and hazardous waste management.
- Confined space safety standby and rescue service.
- Full birdcage scaffold with dancefloor.
- Abrasive blast-cleaning of the entire internal lining.
- Removal of spent grit using high power grit recovery units.
- EEMUA 159 NDT inspection and reporting of jet fuel tank.
- Mechanical steelwork repairs.
- Re-inspection of repairs and reporting.
- Application of jet fuel compliant lining system.
- Pressure washing of external coating.
- Wet abrasive blast cleaning and tool preparation of tank external protective coating system.
- Application of 3ct protective coating system to tank externals from cherry pickers, including non-skid coating on roof.
- Painting of handrails, staircase, manways, valves etc.
- Removal of failed chime polysulphide sealant and installation of highly effective polyisobutene chime wrap system to prevent water ingress underneath tank.
